Clustering of cardiovascular risk factors highlighted the coronary artery calcium as a strong clinical discriminator

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality. Many times healthcare professionals tend to segregate patient populations in different kind of risks: low, intermediate and high depending on standard clinical variables such as age, systolic blood pressure (SBP), smoking and diabetes. Normally one of the most used factors for risk stratification is low density lipoprotein (LDL) as well as Framingham risk score (FRS). On the other hand, using a powerful discriminator as Coronary artery calcium (CAC) it’s possible to separate patients included in a database better than using LDL. The aim of this work was to study the association between clustering of cardiovascular risk factors and the earlier discriminators of cardiovascular disease.

The Ability of Patient-Symptom Questionnaires to Differentiate PVFMD From Asthma

Goals of the current study were to (1) conduct initial validation of a new Paradoxical Vocal Fold Movement Disorder Screening Questionnaire (PVFMD-SQ); (2) determine if symptom-based questionnaires can discriminate between patients with confirmed PVFMD and those with diagnosed uncontrolled asthma without clinical suspicion for PVFMD; and (3) determine if a new questionnaire with diagnostic specificity could be created from a combination of significant items on previously validated questionnaires.

Physical health conditions and quality of life in adults with primary immune deficiency diagnosed during childhood: a CEREDIH study

This is the first study of adult survivors of childhood PID describing how the burden of health conditions affect their quality of life. Our results emphasize the need to closely monitor this vulnerable population.

Long term outcomes of 176 patients with X-linked hyper IgM syndrome treated with or without hematopoietic cell transplantation

A survey of 176 patients with the XHIGM syndrome diagnosed between 1964 and 2013 finds similar overall survival whether treated with or without HCT, although recent experience may favor HCT, especially for those treated at a young age. Given the improvements in care, prospective study of contemporary cohorts is warranted.
